Dorothy was born on July 28, 1931 to Gerald W. and Alice (Reider) Jones in Emporia, Kansas. She attended grade school and high school in Emporia. In 1953, Dorothy married Lloyd E. Schmidt in Greensburg, Kansas. This union was blessed with two children; a son, Terry Lynn and a daughter, Sandra Kay.

Dorothy graduated from Hutch Community College and Emporia State University. She received her Masters Degree in Medical Records from Kansas University. Dorothy moved to Emporia and was employed by Newman Memorial Hospital, serving as Director of Medical Records and was the Medical Staff Secretary for 21 years. Those who worked with Dorothy (both staff and physicians) were keenly aware that she ran a tight ship.

In 1975 Dorothy married Glenn D. Boyce. They reached their 50th Wedding Anniversary this past March. Although Dorothy worked in town, she loved life on the farm. Dorothy took extreme pride in the farmstead being perfectly manicured and relished the hours spent on her John Deere tractor mower. She maintained a large vegetable garden and numerous beautiful flowerbeds. In addition to the joy farm life brought to Dorothy, she was never idle indoors either. Dorothy was an amazing cook and prolific quilter. She rarely sat without a project in her hands or a puppy on her lap. When asked, Glenn would respond, his favorite restaurant was Dorothy’s kitchen.

Glenn and Dorothy retired from farming in 2003 and moved to Emporia. In 2018 Dorothy’s needs required her to relocate to Presbyterian Manor. Glenn joined her at the Manor in fall of 2019.

Dorothy was a member of the First Christian Church in Emporia, and served in various capacities. She was chairperson for the Trustees, a deacon, member of the chime choir, the vocal choir and active in women’s fellowship. She was also a member of the Flint Hills Quilt Guild of Emporia.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Edward; her son, Terry; and a great-grandson, Bobby Joe Bullard. Dorothy is survived by her husband, Glenn; daughter, Sandy Parrack; daughter-in-law, Joan Gabbert; grandchildren: Jennifer (Michael) Palmer and children William Bullard, Coby and Cory Palmer; Andrew (Kiley) Schmidt; Anna (Justin) Linhardt and children Josie, Morgan and Rosalind; Joseph (Brea) Schmidt and children Tatum, Maria and Frank; and Rachel Schmidt.
