With a nod to ongoing clean energy efforts, Doug Scott secured his role as Chairman of the Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) for another five years. Scott, a known figure in policy and energy systems, was reappointed by Governor JB Pritzker in early 2024 and has recently been confirmed by the Illinois State Senate, Illinois Government News Network reported. Addressing the confirmation, Governor Pritzker highlighted the state's commitment to a sustainable future. "States are at the forefront of keeping the country's clean energy ambitions apace. Three years ago, the Climate and Equitable Jobs Act (CEJA) charted Illinois' path to a 100 percent clean energy economy, and in the years to come, the ICC will continue to play a critical role in steering Illinois toward its decarbonization goals," Pritzker said . He praised Scott's ability to juggle "reliability, safety, and affordability alongside these goals." For his part, Chairman Scott acknowledged the complex challenges facing the ICC. "I'm grateful to Governor Pritzker and the Illinois Senate for their continued support of my leadership at the ICC. Balancing the interests of consumers and Illinois' utilities is no small feat, particularly amid the state's changing energy landscape," Scott expressed . He commended the commitment of the ICC staff and commissioners in pursuing the state's infrastructural and environmental objectives. Before his return to the ICC, Scott was the Vice-President for Energy Systems at the Great Plains Institute, tackling climate strategy and the evolving utility business model. His background spans from being the Mayor of Rockford to serving as an Illinois State Representative, and his efforts have led to significant emissions reduction from Illinois power plants, the state's government site reports . Scott also holds a Juris Doctorate from Marquette University and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Tulsa. The ICC, comprised of five Commissioners, regulates public utilities and transportation, ensuring safety, reliability, and consumer protection.
