Dricus Du Plessis’ teammate, Cameron Saaiman, suffered a brutal KO this Saturday at UFC Kansas City.

UFC middleweight champion Dricus Du Plessis has been a main topic of conversation this past week in the UFC, after rumors began to circulate regarding a possible injury .

And with that, fans feared that his likely title fight against Khamzat Chimaev was off as ‘Borz’ teased online that he was going to be out for a while.

However, the South African champion broke his silence a few days ago , shutting down rumors that he is carrying an injury, stating that he will be defending his title against Chimaev next.

Although ‘Stillknocks’ hasn’t been in action since this past January, his teammate Cameron Saaiman was part of a stacked UFC Kansas City Fight Night on Saturday.

Cameron Saaiman suffers brutal one-punch faceplant KO

Following his success on Dana White’s Contender Series and his subsequent three-fight win streak in his debut outings, Cameron Saaiman was being highlighted as a potential future champion at bantamweight.

Despite that, the teammate of Du Plessis went on to lose two fights in a row in disappointing fashion, setting him back a few steps.

He was then matched up with promotional newcomer Malcolm Wellmaker at UFC Kansas City on Saturday, hoping to return to the win column.

Wellmaker was coming in with an undefeated record, also having earned his contract from the Contender Series, and was being highlighted as a big knockout threat at 135lbs.

And the 30-year-old showcased his terrifying KO power just two minutes into the fight when he landed a huge right hook clean on the chin of Saaiman, sending him crashing to the ground and faceplanting the canvas.

Saaiman could be cut from UFC following UFC Kansas City loss

Unfortunately for the South African bantamweight, this now marks his third loss in a row and he is now in danger of being cut from the promotion.

The bantamweight division is one of the deepest in the promotion, and it is unlike the UFC in recent years to keep fighters around after suffering disappointing losing streaks.

Despite that, Saaiman is still only 24 years old and there is a big possibility he could find himself back in the promotion further down the line, if this does mark the end of his current stint under the UFC banner.
