A high-speed crash early Tuesday morning sent a Rochester man to the hospital and temporarily shut down a stretch of road in the Town of Richmond.

Viet Q. Nguyen, 35, was driving a 2020 BMW when he lost control around 5 a.m. on East Lake Road, according to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office. His car left the road, rolled roughly 600 yards, and slammed into a tree before stopping about 150 yards off the roadway in a wooded area.

Deputies said Nguyen was traveling at extreme speeds when the crash occurred. He suffered minor injuries and was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital by Richmond Ambulance. Deputies issued him a citation for speed not reasonable and prudent, and they noted that additional charges could be pending.

Emergency crews, including Richmond Fire, assisted at the scene. The road was closed for a period while the wrecked vehicle was removed.
