AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - One person is in serious condition after being injured in a major car crash in Augusta.

The single-vehicle crash happened around 9:15 p.m. Sunday in the 2700 block of Deans Bridge Road, according to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

Upon arrival, deputies were able to determine that the driver of the vehicle was traveling north on Deans Bridge Road at a high speed.

A high-speed chase ended with three people dead in Crisp County – one of the latest in a string of police chases with serious consequences in Georgia.

The driver lost control of the vehicle, which crossed over the median into the southbound lanes of Deans Bridge and flipped over.

The driver was extricated and taken to a local hospital in serious condition.

On Friday night, multiple Georgia agencies partnered together to conduct road safety checks throughout Richmond County.

No further information was available late Sunday.
