OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - In the latest drought monitor issued Thursday, conditions have worsened across the Omaha area.

Moderate drought has spread across areas north and south/southwest of the metro with abnormally dry conditions covering a large portion of the area as well.

This is a big change from just two and a half months ago! On July 9th, Iowa was completely drought free with a majority of the state of Nebraska drought free as well. Now, nearly 94% of Iowa is experiencing abnormally dry conditions or worse with over 80% of Nebraska experiencing some level of dry conditions.

This comes as no surprise as the Omaha area has been very dry so far this season of fall (that begins September 1st) and for the month of September. In fact, only 0.9″ of rain has been recorded at Eppley so far in September with only 0.3″ of rain recorded since August 14th.

September 2024 is also on track to be the driest September on record. With no rain chances in the 6 First Alert Forecast , this will likely become the new record.
