SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - Dakota News Now has learned more about Tuesday’s apprehension of a man wanted for a Sioux Falls murder.

Lamont Burks, Jr. is the second person taken into custody regarding the shooting and death of a Sioux Falls man in Dunham Park last August .

When police entered the vehicle information for Burks as possibly being connected to a shooting and possible murder, the license plate and vehicle information spread nationwide.

On Tuesday afternoon, a license plate reader in South Carolina hit on the South Dakota plates of the orange Mitsubishi associated with Burks and the alleged crime.

Special investigators caught up to the vehicle on Interstate 85. Burks was alone and taken into custody without incident.

Although no firearms or ammunition was found, three cell phones were discovered inside the car.

Before the shooting in August, Burks was already on parole in South Dakota for simple assault.

A Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson said upon extradition, it would take about a week to bring Burks home.

Sgt. Craig Butler said there are no known ties that Burks had to South Carolina.

The victim in the shooting was Joshau Allen. His mother was glad to hear of Burks' arrest but believed there were others involved who still needed to be questioned and charged.

The family plans to hold a fundraiser for Josh’s surviving children this weekend.
