(WKBN) — An earthquake was confirmed by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) along the Kentucky/Ohio border early Thursday morning.

The earthquake was very weak with a magnitude of 2.4, and it occurred shortly after midnight about 4 miles southeast of Georgetown, Ohio and 40 miles southeast of Cincinnati. The earthquake occurred at a depth of about 5 miles.

Earthquakes with magnitudes of less than 2.5 are generally not felt by humans, but they are picked up by seismographs. While weak earthquakes are common in this area, the Valley is one of the least at-risk places for a damaging earthquake in the United States, according to the USGS.

The places most prone to damaging earthquakes in the United States include parts of the Mississippi River Valley, the West Coast, Alaska, and Hawaii.
