Remembering through art: The Jewish Federation of Tulsa is now accepting entries for the 2024 Kristallnacht art contest.

This year’s theme is “Critical Moments: the Path to the Holocaust.” Participation is open to all Oklahoma secondary students and entries must be received by the Jewish Federation of Tulsa by 5 p.m. on Nov. 1. Winners will be announced at the Kristallnacht Remembrance Event on Nov. 7 and all submissions will be displayed at the Sherwin Miller Museum of Jewish Art.

Retirement: Broken Arrow Public Schools announced Tuesday the impending retirement of Associate Superintendent Larry Shackelford in December after a 46-year career in education.

Shackelford started his career in 1978 as a coach at Prue High School and previously retired in 2016 after stints at Grove and Broken Arrow. After his first retirement, he was superintendent at Jay Public Schools for three years, then rejoined Broken Arrow Public Schools in 2020.

FAFSA help: Berryhill Public Schools will host a FAFSA night Thursday from 4-6 p.m. in room 102 of Berryhill High School.

Feedback wanted: Catoosa Public Schools is asking parents, staff, students and community members to help with implementation of the district’s five-year strategic plan by completing an online survey. The survey is available online at https://tinyurl.com/CatoosaSurvey and will be open through Oct. 15. Responses will be kept anonymous.

New home: Dove Charter Schools officially cut the ribbon Friday on a new high school building at 4343 S. 118th E. Ave.

Grant opportunity: The Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence is accepting applications through Jan. 23 for its Fund for Teachers grant program, which provides funding for teachers to pursue educational opportunities abroad.

Individuals may apply for up to $5,000, while teacher teams may apply for up to $10,000 in grant funds. To be eligible, teachers must spend at least 50% of their time directly providing instruction to students, must be returning to the classroom in the consecutive school year, and must have at least three years’ experience teaching pre-K through 12th grade at the end of the current school year.

Party time: Tulsa Public Schools is hosting its Hispanic Heritage Festival Sunday from 4-9 p.m. at Guthrie Green. The event is free and open to the public.

Instructional shifts: Monday is a distance-learning day for Liberty.
