The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) of Washington D.C. reported a largely uneventful Memorial Day weekend in terms of public disorder, a direct result of the preventative strategies they implemented alongside Mayor Bowser; these measures included heightened officer deployment and enforcement of curfews. According to a press release by the MPD , their actions successfully staved off any significant gatherings of disorderly groups on Friday night throughout the city.

Particularly at the DC Wharf, where a juvenile curfew was enforced at 5 p.m., officers from the First District encountered no instances of unruly crowds, and they did not have to make any juvenile arrests, though three adult arrests were made for possession of an open container and public consumption of marijuana. The Navy Yard area saw some disorderly conduct, resulting in two juvenile arrests, one for possession of a high capacity feeding device, the other one for public consumption of marijuana, but overall the scene was kept under control.

The Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) hosted the Holiday Hype event at Banneker Recreation Center, where attendees enjoyed the evening with no reported incidents, hinting at a smooth execution of public safety plans. Chief of Police Pamela A. Smith, in the MPD statement, expressed her appreciation for the officers' dedication, "I want to thank our officers for their continued dedication and the work they’re doing throughout this holiday weekend."

Late into the night, around 1 a.m., incidents of disorderly behavior emerged along the U Street corridor were groups of juveniles were stopped by the MPD for violating DC curfew law, including six juveniles, two of whom were arrested for Carrying a Pistol Without a License, the offenders hailed from different regions, two from DC, three from Montgomery County and one from Prince George’s County, the disorder was quickly dispersed following the MPD's intervention. Chief Smith has encouraged city residents and visitors alike to enjoy the remainder of the Memorial Day Weekend, ensuring a continued visible presence of law enforcement officers. The MPD also reminds the public to report any suspicious activities by calling 202-727-9099 or texting at 50411.
