EL AL Israel Airlines suspended all of its flights on Friday after the nation’s armed forces launched a series of air attacks against Iran to destroy that country’s nuclear sites and decapitate its military leadership..

In South Florida, the suspension immediately affected Israel-bound travelers who have booked flights out of Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and Miami International Airport this weekend.

On Friday at 6:29 p.m. Israel time, the airline posted a notice on its website announcing the “suspension of all our flights” following the closure of Israeli airspace for takeoffs and landings. Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport, the starting and end point for most of the country’s international flights, is closed.

EL AL said it advised customers scheduled to fly this Saturday evening and Sunday “not to come to the airport and to await updates regarding their flight status. For customers currently abroad, we recommend arranging accommodation until there is a change in security directives.”

Bookings also halted

“Additionally, EL AL and Sundor flights scheduled to depart up to and including June 30, 2025, are currently closed for new bookings in the booking systems,” the notice said. “This is until the security situation becomes clearer and with the aim of providing solutions for Israelis whose flights were canceled.”

Sundor is a unit of EL AL that operates seasonal flights, mostly to Europe.

“We are working in full coordination with governmental security authorities and prioritizing the safety and security of passengers and crew,” the EL AL notice added.

The Israeli national airline is phasing out its service to Tel Aviv from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood by April 14, 2026, so it can consolidate its South Florida operations at Miami International. The carrier launched year-round service at the Broward County airport last year.

Besides South Florida, EL AL also offers nonstop service out of New York’s JFK International Airport, Newark, Boston and Los Angeles.
