KENNEWICK, Wash.–An elderly woman and a teenager crashed into the Kennewick Taqueria El Molcajete shortly for 2 p.m. today.

The driver did not yield to oncoming traffic before speeding up to avoid oncoming traffic, according to the Kennewick Police Department . The vehicle was driving too fast when turning into the parking lot, and got stuck in the building.

KPD Patrol Officer Alex Holden said as the elderly woman turned into the parking lot, she hit a curb that caused her airbags to deploy before hitting the building.

The passengers were stuck from debris blocking the door but were removed within three minutes of crews arriving, Holden said. Both people in the car and no employees were injured.

One person was evaluated for minor injuries but declined to go to the hospital, according to KPD.

Electricity and gas has been shut off in the restaurant, and water pipes were damaged, Holden said. The business next door has some water pipes cracking, but all other businesses in the parking lot are still open.

The driver has been charged with negligent driving in the second degree, according to KPD.

This is an ongoing story and will be updated as information comes in.
