ELGIN — A Midlands location of a popular snow cone chain will not be biting the bullet after all.

The Pelican’s SnoBalls in Elgin has struck a deal with the property’s landlord to remain open, the store said in a May 17 Facebook post .

The owners of the location had previously announced they would be closing due to an "unresolved dispute" with the landlord. The store was originally slated to close its doors on May 18 .

“This location was once one of our top-selling store (sic), but over the last few years, sales have declined,” the Facebook post announcing the store’s survival read. “Still, our love for this community and belief in what we do has never changed.”

The post further encouraged the public to support the store. No additional details on the dispute or agreement with the landlord were provided.

“Now, with a new path forward, we need your support more than ever to help us bring the fun, flavor, and family memories back stronger than ever,” the post read.

The New Orleans-based chain operates almost a dozen stores in the Columbia area, around 45 in the state and over 200 nationwide, according to the Pelican's website.

Pelican’s was one of a few high-profile closures announced in the town of 1,600 over the course of a few weeks.
