Our thoughts on Endurance car warranty

We gave Endurance the highest overall score out of the 41 providers we’ve reviewed, assigning the company 4.5 out of 5 stars based on our rating methodology .

Endurance ranks as our top pick because it scores high in each of our rating categories.

Endurance primarily stands out from its competition because of its six total coverage plans, including plans for older used cars . Endurance Advantage, one of the company’s available policies, includes maintenance benefits, which most competitors don’t offer. Additionally, each plan includes a free year of Endurance Elite Benefits, enhancing your plan’s perks with a collision discount, total loss protection and coverage for tire and key replacements.

Of course, no warranty provider is perfect, and you should consider the pros and cons of any company before making a decision or purchase.

Pros

Cons

What we like

There’s a lot to like about Endurance. For one, it’s a direct provider and administers its own warranty contracts — it’s not a broker , so you won’t deal with a third-party middleman when filing a claim. Instead, you’ll work with Endurance to resolve your claim from start to finish.

Endurance Advantage plans are another unique offering. These plans combine mechanical protection with maintenance benefits, so you’ll receive services such as oil changes, tire rotations and brake pad replacements during your coverage period. Most providers don’t offer this kind of coverage, giving Endurance an edge over its competitors.

What we don’t like

When analyzing a provider’s market standing, we look at its Better Business Bureau (BBB) rating and any flagged complaint patterns. Although Endurance has an A- rating and over 4,100 reviews with BBB, the company’s received over 3,000 complaints in the last three years, with more than 1,300 of those complaints received in the last year alone.

In addition, BBB states that Endurance received a government action from the state of Oregon, with a settlement made on December 28, 2022. The government action indicates that Endurance engaged in poor marketplace conduct. Many of the complaints about Endurance posted on BBB revolve around unsolicited advertising and marketing attempts, though some of this can be attributed to third-party brokers advertising Endurance policies.

Customer thoughts on Endurance

Endurance’s customer reviews on sites such as BBB, Trustpilot and Google Reviews are somewhat positive. We gave Endurance a customer service score of 4.1 out of 5 stars based on its customer review ratings, number of BBB complaints, mobile app availability and our experience with the company’s quotes process.

When compared to other providers we reviewed, Endurance’s customer review score is close to the industry average of 4 out of 5 stars. Everything Breaks earned the highest score in this category with 4.6 out of 5 stars due to its low number of customer complaints. Autopom ranks No. 2 in the customer service category with 4.5 out of 5 stars based on its high customer review scores on BBB and Trustpilot.

The table below lists the top 10 extended warranty providers we’ve reviewed and their customer service scores, based on our review standards.

Recent Endurance reviews on Reddit

Endurance reviews on Reddit lean generally negative, with most complaints centering around denied coverage or unpaid claims. Some comments state that, while Endurance covers claims , the process is slow and requires inspections, with repairs delayed for days until claims are approved.

Other reviews complain about denied coverage despite beliefs that certain parts and systems are covered by an Endurance policy. However, as some comments point out, this could be a misunderstanding of the contract terms, with coverage for certain components limited to “internally lubricated parts.” When purchasing any extended warranty, we recommend reading through sample contracts to determine what, specifically, is covered and asking a sales representative for clarity if you don’t understand the policy’s exclusions.

One commenter reported that, though Endurance approved a claim, covered parts and provided towing, the company only paid for two hours of labor per day . Paying for reduced labor costs is a common occurrence in the extended warranty industry, so this complaint isn’t unique to Endurance, as is the use of aftermarket parts instead of OEM (original equipment manufacturer) parts.

In general, many of these complaints are similar to those made for other providers as well. The consensus is that Endurance is a legitimate extended warranty provider, though claims approvals vary based on the repairs needed and the terms of your contract.

How much does Endurance cost?

Endurance warranties cost between $93 and $123 per month, or an average of $104 per month, depending on your vehicle, choice of plan, coverage level and length of coverage. The average price per year across all Endurance plan types is $1,256, based on quotes we received. In contrast, extended warranties cost an average of $848 per year of coverage across all providers we reviewed, which means Endurance is slightly more expensive.

To show you how much an Endurance car warranty costs, we got quotes for coverage on a 2020 Ford Fusion with 55,000 miles, a 2020 Toyota RAV4 with 55,000 miles and a 2020 Honda Odyssey with 55,000 miles. We also received quotes for a 2016 Ford Fusion with 105,00 miles, a 2016 Toyota RAV4 with 105,000 miles and a 2016 Honda Odyssey with 105,000 miles. When we requested quotes, we were required to make a down payment of the first month’s costs and a $29 activation fee.

While the price seems nice at first, this is only for 2.5 years/40,000 miles of coverage. Our total costs over a 30-month payment period varied from $2,824 to $3,710.

This table illustrates the cost of a 2.5-year/40,000-mile Endurance vehicle service contract with a $100 deductible for a 2020 Ford Fusion with 55,000 miles.

This table illustrates the cost of a 2.5-year/40,000-mile Endurance service plan with a $100 deductible for a 2016 Ford Fusion with 105,000 miles.

Endurance deductibles

In addition to paying for the cost of your plan, you may also need to pay a deductible before any repairs are made. Deductibles for Endurance vehicle service contracts range from $0 to $200 depending on your coverage and chosen options. Generally, the lower your deductible, the higher your total cost for coverage.

If your Endurance plan has a deductible, you need to pay the repair shop first before Endurance covers the remaining bill. For example, if you have a $200 deductible and Endurance will cover a $2,000 repair, you’re responsible for the initial $200. After you pay the deductible, Endurance would cover the remaining $1,800.

Endurance cost vs. competitors

The cost of Endurance plans is reflected in its rating, with the company scoring 4.3 out of 5 stars in the cost category. Autopom, our No. 2 pick, scores 4.9 out of 5 with some of the cheapest extended warranty plans available, averaging $666 per year across all plan types — almost half what Endurance coverage costs.

On the flip side, Endurance is less expensive than some of its other competitors in our top 10, including Carchex (with an average of $1,427 per year across all plans) and CarShield (with an average of $1,520 per year across all plans).

The table below ranks the top 10 extended warranty providers we’ve reviewed and their corresponding score in the cost category, based on our review standards.

Endurance doesn’t offer unlimited, month-to-month payment plans. If you want to avoid committing long-term to a plan, CarShield or Carchex might be a better option. Unlimited plans can get pricey, though. We encourage you to get quotes and compare costs from different companies for how long you’ll need coverage.

Does Endurance offer discounts?

Endurance advertises two types of discounts, including limited-time offers (for example, $300 off a new policy) and frequent seasonal discounts around holidays such as Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day.

For example, Endurance offered us a first-time applicant discount during one of our previous secret shopping experiences. While we can’t promise that you’ll get a deal, it never hurts to ask for available discounts and lower rates when shopping for extended warranty coverage.

How do Endurance warranty payments work?

Endurance offers an automatic payment option in addition to electronic payments through the company’s online customer portal or Endurance Mobile, the company’s mobile app. With some contracts, you may be required to make payments to a third-party provider other than Endurance, but billing information should be explained clearly on your application or contract.

What does an Endurance warranty cover?

Endurance warranty plans cover vehicles for up to eight years and unlimited miles, depending on your coverage terms. While the company offers six levels of coverage, it only advertises the Superior, Supreme and Secure Plus plans on its site. We had to hunt down the sample contracts on its website to find information on all the plans it sells.

Endurance warranty plans

Endurance sells six coverage plans, though it only lists three on its website — you’ll need to speak to a sales representative to purchase any of the company’s unlisted plans. Plans listed on the Endurance website include a comprehensive bumper-to-bumper policy (Endurance Supreme), a midlevel stated-components plan (Endurance Superior) and a powertrain warranty that includes coverage for a few extra components (Endurance Secure Plus).

Other Endurance coverage options

Which parts does Endurance cover?

Endurance offers plans ranging from comprehensive bumper-to-bumper coverage (similar to a car’s factory warranty) to powertrain warranty protection. Though most providers offer similar levels of coverage, what impressed our team the most was the Endurance Advantage plan, which helps cover maintenance costs. Only one other top provider in our review — Omega Auto Care — offers maintenance benefits with its plans.

Does Endurance provide additional benefits or perks?

What does Endurance not cover?

Every warranty — extended or otherwise — excludes coverage for certain components, systems and incidents, and Endurance is no different. Though certain exclusions apply to specific plans, some general exclusions are common to most warranties . Typically, exclusions are damages from the following: acts of nature, such as floods or fires, car accidents, preexisting issues, vandalism or theft and vehicle abuse or misuse.

Before any scheduled service or work, consult your specific policy to make sure the work is covered.

Terms and conditions

Endurance offers a 30-day money-back guarantee. This means that if you’re unsatisfied with the coverage at any point within the 30-day limit, you’ll receive a full refund. If you cancel after 30 days, expect to receive a prorated refund based on how long you’ve had the plan and if you’ve filed a claim or not.

Endurance coverage versus other warranty providers

Endurance plans are available to drivers in all states except California. If you live in California and want to purchase a plan from Endurance, don’t worry — it offers similar mechanical breakdown insurance coverage to residents of the Golden State.

We gave Endurance 4.9 out of 5 stars for the coverage category based on the company’s available coverage levels, length and mileage limits, and maintenance benefits. Endurance ties with Omega Auto Care and CNA National Warranty for the highest score in this category.

What is Endurance’s market standing?

Endurance earned 4.6 out of 5 stars for its market standing based on its founding (2006), availability in all 50 states, partnerships and endorsements, and status as an administrator of its own plans. Endurance’s high market standing score indicates that the company is well-established and reputable.

Only two other extended warranty providers in our top 10 ranking — Carchex and EasyCare Warranty — outscore Endurance in the market standing category, both earning 4.7 stars based on their founding years. Carchex was founded in 1999 and EasyCare Warranty was founded in 1984, so both companies earned additional points in our review standards for being founded before 2000.

Is Endurance legit?

We consider Endurance a trustworthy and reputable extended warranty provider based on the company’s 30-day money-back guarantee, availability of sample contracts, 30-day/1,000-mile waiting period and plan transferability. Endurance earned 4.9 out of 5 stars in our trustworthiness review category, tying only with Carchex among our top 10 picks.

The table below lists the top 10 extended warranty providers we’ve reviewed and the score we assigned for each in the trustworthiness category, based on our review standards.

Is an Endurance warranty worth it?

In general, an Endurance extended warranty is worth it , but whether you should purchase coverage depends on your needs and situation. No extended warranty covers every repair or expense — and Endurance is no different — but paying for coverage may offset your out-of-pocket repair expenses down the line.

Because Endurance offers such a variety of coverage levels, chances are you can find a plan that meets your needs without the risk of paying for coverage you don’t want. For example, if your car is relatively reliable, you may be best served by Endurance Secure, which would cover only your car’s most expensive components (its powertrain).

If you have a less reliable car or an older vehicle, more comprehensive coverage — such as Endurance Supreme — may offset what you’ll spend out of pocket for frequent or more complex breakdowns and repairs. Endurance is also worth it for new cars , with the total average cost of comprehensive coverage coming in at $382 less than the average cost of similar coverage from all providers (for a 2024 Toyota Camry with 100 miles).

How do you use an Endurance warranty?

You can begin using your Endurance warranty after your policy’s waiting period, which typically lasts for 30 days or 1,000 miles. After your waiting period expires, Endurance will pay for covered work it authorizes at your preferred certified repair facility. Remember that covered repairs are limited to what’s outlined in your contract, so the company may not pay for every type of breakdown.

Does Endurance cover warranty claims?

Yes, Endurance covers warranty claims . Endurance is a direct administrator , which means it both sells and manages its own contracts. In other words, when you file a claim under your policy, it’s Endurance that decides whether to approve or deny it.

This is different from companies such as Carchex or CarShield, which sell extended warranties that are administered by other companies, such as American Auto Shield or Zurich.

Though many negative customer reviews center around denied claims, this is a common complaint in the extended warranty industry.

It’s important to take the time to read your contract fully to understand your coverage when filing a claim and avoid an unpleasant surprise if your breakdown isn’t covered under warranty terms.

Because Endurance takes care of all claims in-house, its claims process is straightforward. If your car breaks down, you need to get it to an ASE-certified repair shop or dealership. If you can’t get your car there yourself, don’t forget that you may have towing benefits under your contract.

What is an ASE-certified repair shop?

The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) is an independent nonprofit organization that tests and certifies professionals, such as auto mechanics, to ensure they have the experience and expertise needed to do quality work. As of July 2024, there are more than172,000 ASE-certified automobile technicians (out of a total of more than 214,000 ASE-certified professionals).

Endurance states that any ASE-certified repair facility , including dealerships, chains and local repair shops, accept the company’s warranties. However, always ask your preferred facility if it accepts Endurance warranties before a diagnostic or an inspection begins and before you request authorization for repairs.

If you have difficulty finding a repair shop that accepts Endurance warranties, you can use the RepairPal Certified Network , which lists over 2,500 Certified shops nationwide.

How do you file an Endurance warranty claim?

If your car requires emergency repairs and the shop isn’t able to contact Endurance for authorization because the administrator’s office is closed, Endurance will reimburse you or the repair facility if the repairs are covered by your warranty.

The company has published a video outlining the Endurance claims submission process .

What can you do with the Endurance warranty app?

The Endurance Mobile app Glove Box provides access to your full warranty and other digital paperwork, including information about your Endurance Elite Benefits.

How do you contact Endurance customer service?

Endurance makes it easy to contact customer service through your preferred method, including phone, email and live chat through the company’s website. You may also call or email Endurance customer service through the Endurance Mobile app.

Phone numbers and contact forms are listed on the Endurance website, with different phone numbers and forms listed for both sales representatives and customer support representatives. The company also lists a phone number for submitting repair facility claims.

You may also find contact details in your Endurance vehicle service contract, including contact details for submitting an authorization request.

How do you cancel an Endurance warranty?

Endurance provides a 30-day money-back guarantee with every warranty it sells. This means you can cancel an Endurance warranty within the first 30 days of purchase by contacting Endurance. Because the waiting period typically overlaps with the length of money-back guarantee, you should receive a full refund.

You can cancel an Endurance warranty after the first 30 days by notifying Endurance in writing . You must include a Federal Odometer Statement or a notarized affidavit verifying your car’s mileage at the time you submit your request for cancellation.

Endurance will provide you with a prorated refund based on the number of months or miles driven while your policy has been in force before you submitted a cancellation request, minus an administrative fee and the total cost of any claims paid out.

Does Endurance offer car insurance?

Endurance doesn’t sell car insurance. As an extended warranty provider, Endurance sells vehicle service contracts that cover the cost of certain breakdowns and repairs. In contrast, car insurance is sold by insurance companies, with coverage typically limited to accidental damages and loss.

Endurance sells mechanical breakdown insurance (MBI) in California. MBI is a type of insurance policy that covers breakdowns and is similar to an extended warranty. However, MBI policies aren’t car insurance — you still need to maintain the legally required insurance coverage for your state.

Endurance vs. other auto warranty companies

Though Endurance is our No. 1 pick, other providers could be better for your needs. We’ve compiled a table featuring information on the top five highest-scoring extended warranty companies in our industry review to help you compare them.

Endurance vs. Autopom

Autopom is our second pick for the best extended car warranty company due to the low cost of its plans and its customer service, where Autopom outshines Endurance. Though Autopom scores well in the market standing, coverage and trustworthiness categories, Endurance takes the lead with better coverage options and a more established company history, which is why we ranked the company No. 1 overall.

Still, Autopom is a viable competitor, offering some of the cheapest extended warranties on the market.

The table below compares category scores between Endurance and Autopom.

Endurance vs. Carchex

Carchex is our No. 3 extended warranty pick. Like Endurance, Carchex maintains an overall score of 4.5 out of 5 stars, though its coverage and cost scores fall short compared to Endurance’s. Carchex offers longer coverage terms than Endurance does, capping at 10 years/250,000 miles.

On average, Carchex costs more than Endurance, though its lengthier coverage terms make it a solid contender for owners of old or used vehicles.

The table below compares category scores between Endurance and Carchex.

Final take: Endurance is our top pick for an extended auto warranty

Endurance stands out as our No. 1 pick for the best extended auto warranties because of its range of coverage options. When combined with its available maintenance benefits and Endurance Elite perks, few competitors come close to offering solid coverage options for new and used cars alike.

But you should still shop around to find the best extended warranty for you by getting quotes from multiple providers and comparing available policy options. This way, you’ll get the coverage you need at a price you love.
