Florida isn't known as the Sunshine State for no reason.

But too much of a good thing is never good, and cloudless skies with a blazing sun shining down is no fun for anyone. There's a good reason snowbirds leave before temperatures start to soar, and they barely made it out before a heat wave sent temps heading to near-record levels in May 2025.

Don't take heat lightly; it's a killer. According to NOAA, heat has claimed an average of 183 lives between 1994 and 2023 in the U.S. each year. In 2023, there were 555 heat-related fatalities in the U.S. Two were in Florida.

Here's a roundup of our coverage so far in 2025, along with tips to stay cool — well, maybe a little cooler — and dangers to watch for.
