TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - The University of Arizona will host its commencement ceremony at Arizona Stadium at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

University President Suresh V. Garimella will confer around 9,000 bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral, and professional degrees.

The approximately 90-minute ceremony will be streamed live below and on the university’s YouTube page . The school said more than 30,000 guests are expected to attend.

Erik Weihenmayer, a world-renowned adventurer best known for becoming the first blind person to summit Mount Everest, will deliver the address .

13 News’ Sean Mahoney will be there Friday night to interview Weihenmayer and to cover the commencement. Be sure to watch us on Friday for coverage.

Weihenmayer is the only blind climber to ascend the Seven Summits – the highest peaks on each continent. A Time magazine cover story on his 2001 Mount Everest climb brought him worldwide recognition.

Free parking will be available at all University surface lots and garages. The school said you should use the South Stadium Garage and lots south of 6th Street or north of the Mall to avoid traffic congestion.

There is an Interactive Parking Map and a Printable Parking Map available.

CatTran buses are wheelchair accessible and will provide transportation to the stadium, with pickups at 1st Street and Martin, 1st Street between Cherry Avenue and Warren Avenue, 1st Street and Vine Avenue, and 2nd Street Garage. Golf cart service will be available from 6th Street Garage to Gate 8 and Cherry Garage to Gate 6.

Students wishing to attend in person must RSVP, as tickets are required for their entry. Guest information is added when a student submits their RSVP. Guests will not receive, or need, a ticket to enter the stadium.

Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis for both guests and graduates. All gates will open to the public at 6:30 p.m. Gate 7 opens early at 5:30 p.m.

Seat backs will be available for rental inside the stadium.

Please note: Entering one side of Arizona Stadium may limit your seating options to that side only; not every level of the Stadium directly connects to the other side. To traverse east to west or vice versa, walking along the South End Zone concourse under the stands or North End Zone concourse at Level 4 are the only paths that connect the two sides of Arizona Stadium.

Game day rules for clear bags will be enforced. View the clear bag policy HERE .

The university will also recognize Eller College of Management alum Zach Fenton as this year’s Alumni Achievement Award winner. Fenton is the principal of ZFI Holdings LLC, a real estate investment company, who will be recognized for his entrepreneurship and commitment to community development.
