A former Chicago police officer, Jacqueline Villasenor, is due in court Tuesday afternoon for a plea hearing regarding the 2021 shooting death of her husband, also a member of the Chicago Police Department. According to NBC Chicago , Villasenor faces charges of involuntary manslaughter after the fatal incident involving her husband, German Villasenor, during a domestic dispute at their residence near O'Hare International Airport. The confrontation that led to the shooting occurred in the couple's bedroom on the Northwest Side, where prosecutors assert Jacqueline Villasenor threatened to take her own life with a gun. As the couple struggled for control of the firearm, German Villasenor was ultimately shot in the chest, an injury that proved fatal, NBC Chicago detailed . Jacqueline, who had been drinking at the time of the altercation, allegedly refused to take an alcohol breath test following the incident. The couple's 16-year-old son was present in the home when the gun discharged, hearing the shot and discovering his parents in a dire scene. He found his mother administering CPR to his father, whom he soon learned had not survived the wound. A medical kit bag was retrieved, and 911 was called in a desperate attempt at aid, as reported by NBC Chicago . An off-duty officer was the first to respond to the scene, where Jacqueline recounted the fight over the affair and the subsequent struggle with the gun. All firearms were immediately removed from the home post-incident, and Villasenor was ordered by the court not to consume any intoxicants while on bond, and to surrender any firearm licenses and ammunition she had, CBS Chicago reported. Amid these proceedings, the grief-stricken voice of Leticia Villasenor, German's mother, resonates with a piercing question, "My son dedicated his life to serving and protecting victims. Who is protecting my son?" She told NBC Chicago , capturing the heartbreak that extends beyond crime and into the realm of familial tragedy.
