Two Democrats fired by President Donald Trump from the top privacy oversight watchdog on US intelligence operations sued the president Monday, asking a judge for reinstatement.

Former Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board commissioners Ed Felten and Travis LeBlanc claim their termination in January was without cause and violated the 2007 9/11 Commission Act, which requires the oversight body to be nonpartisan and independent.

Trump’s firings “strike at the heart of the separation of powers,” the complaint , filed Monday in the US District Court for the District of Columbia, said.
