Quarterback Cam Coleman , who mostly started through two seasons at the University of Richmond, and former UNLV quarterback Matthew Sluka , who left that school after last season began in a disagreement regarding NIL payments, have joined the James Madison program from the transfer portal, JMU announced Tuesday.

University Richmond quarterback Cam Coleman was named third team all-CAA last season as a sophomore, and was 13-1 as a Spiders' starter.

Alonza Barnett, JMU's QB last season, suffered a serious knee injury late in the year as a redshirt sophomore.

Coleman, a 6-foot-3 220-pounder from Clemmons, North Carolina, started on UR's 2023 and 2024 CAA Football championship teams. He was 13-1 as a Spiders’ starter. Last season, Coleman passed for 2,031 yards (13 touchdowns, five interceptions) and completed 64.5% of his attempts. He was also UR's second-leading rusher (342 yards, six TDs) and named third team all-CAA.
