In “A Better Life for Their Children: Julius Rosenwald, Booker T. Washington, and the 4,978 Schools That Changed America,” powerful black and white photographs taken by Andrew Feiler line the walls accompanied by his stories of Rosenwald schools and the communities that built them. The Virginia Museum of History & Culture partnered with the Bray School Lab at William & Mary and various Rosenwald school community groups to curate a special section that showcases the history of Rosenwald schools in Virginia which included 382 Rosenwald buildings constructed between 1917 and 1932.
