FAMU come out and opened the game by gradually moving the football down the field, ending with a seven-yard touchdown by running back Thad Franklin. Bethune-Cookman's first drive ended with an interception caught by FAMU linebacker Nay'Ron Jenkins. The Rattlers couldn't advance on the drive after the interception and punted to Bethune-Cookman, leading to a 51-yard touchdown by punt returner Maleek Huggins.
