The internet has spoken!

Netflix recently announced they will be streaming a new show, simply titled Wednesday featuring the off-beat, yet oddly endearing character Wednesday Addams from the classic The Addams FamilyThe foremost reaction from fans was excitement, quickly followed by the question: "Where is Christina Ricci?"

As you probably know, Ricci played Wednesday Addams in the 1991 and 1993 live-action films depicting the quirky and kooky family. Delivering a stand-out performance of this particularly mysterious and spooky character put Ricci on the map at a young age and locked her portrayal of Wednesday into the minds of a generation. So, it's no surprise that as soon as the show was announced days ago, the internet swooped in to demand them some Christina Ricci.

The idea of an adult Wednesday living among us in 2021 is undoubtedly appealing. In fact, from 2013-15, Melissa Hunter made a relatively entertaining web series based on just that. The series was very popular, with over 20 million views, and certainly helped Hunter's career but seems to have suffered copyright issues which kept it from continuing (you can still find the videos online, however).

Sadly, based on the synopsis provided by Netflix, it doesn't sound as though Ricci will still be right for the role. Following "Wednesday’s years as a student at the peculiar Nevermore Academy," the series is described as a "sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery." With at least some of the major plot points focusing on Wednesday at school, it's probably safe to assume Ricci has "aged out" of the part. Of course, that hasn't stopped anyone from suggesting she make an appearance on the show anyhow. Some fans have even suggested she play Morticia Addams, Wednesdays' mother.

Furthermore, Tim Burton is attached as an executive producer and director. Ricci and Burton collaborated in 1999's Sleepy Hollow, so it would make perfect sense that they team up again for this project. Even if we won't be seeing Ricci reprising the role of Wednesday, there's a pretty good chance she'll pop up in the series somewhere, especially as far as the internet community is concerned. Hey, it worked out for Rosario Dawson, right?

What do you think about the upcoming Wednesday series? Let us know in the comments if you're a big Christina Ricci fan.
