A speeding vehicle killed a pedestrian on Central Avenue near Louisiana Boulevard Friday night and did not stop, an Albuquerque Police Department news release said.

A man was walking toward an ART bus stop on Central Avenue when he was hit by a black Chevy Malibu driving in the bus lane. The man was critically injured and died after being taken to the hospital, the release said.

An automated license plate reader near the scene showed that the vehicle is registered to a person in Rio Rancho. The Rio Rancho Police Department went to the registered address but the vehicle was not there, the release said.

The investigation by APD is ongoing. KOAT will update this story when more information is made available.
