June is Pride Month, and in the spirit, we wanted to share some of the best gay bars in Washington, D.C.!
And don’t miss the
Pride parade, festival, and many, many parties, this coming weekend.
Here are three favorite gay bars to check out in Washington, D.C.
900 U Street NW, Washington, D.C., 20001
Nellie’s is almost a Washington, D.C., institution. Part sports bar, part dance club, some part brunch spot, Nellie does it all. It’s especially popular on weekends in the summer, when the rooftop is open.
There’s an
event for every night of the week, and amongst the most attended are the Saturday and Sunday drag brunches, which feature not only delicious breakfast food until 3 p.m., but also a show. During the week, you can participate in everything from trivia, to ping pong, to dance parties.

The gay community has in many ways revolutionized 14
th Street and the Logan Circle neighborhood. There are many great gay-friendly bars to choose from, but if you like your cocktails and your whiskey, and you love to people-watch out the big front window, grab yourself a seat at the front. You can’t go wrong with Black Whiskey.
Very much a neighborhood bar, Black Whiskey boasts a casual atmosphere and cool, local staff, who often live nearby themselves. They serve classic drinks (with a selection of more than 300 whiskeys), serve delicious bar food, play good music, and have pool tables available for anyone who wants to play.
With the Pride parade heading right through the 14
th Street area, you know this spot will be the place to be.

1435 P Street NW, Washington, D.C., 20005
While Black Whiskey is perfect for a laid-back night, Number Nine is great if you want to go out and be seen. The bar has two floors, as well as a front-facing patio that spills out onto P Street. It’s both a nightclub and a lounge, and is always busy, no matter what day of the week.
If you want to enjoy the weather, hang out on the patio. On especially hot days, Number Nine will have their mist machines on, so you can stay refreshingly cool. Want to watch a sports game? The top level of the bar is called the “video bar” and is set up with several large TVs for your viewing pleasure. And if you want to dance, this bar plays a fun mix of music on the weekends.
Enjoy one of the signature cocktails off the
drink menu, such as Summer’s Revenge, with Deep Eddy Lemon Vodka, strawberry puree, fresh lemons, lemonade, and soda water; or the Blood Orange Old Fashioned, with Old Overhold Rye Whiskey, blood orange puree, orange bitters, and simple syrup.
Number Nine is going to be the prime spot to catch all the Pride festivities, so make sure you show up early to get a good seat.
