It goes without saying that kids benefit from reading throughout the summer -- Sometimes all they need is a little incentive! So we've compiled a list of some of the best summer reading programs at libraries around the Denver metro area.
Who says you can
only sign up for
one? Sign up your kiddos for summer reading programs at any library district where you're a card holder. For my library-crazy family? That means
three!
If you haven't yet discovered the amazingness that is your local library in the summertime, then hold on tight! Between the prize incentives for reading and the multiple free events libraries hold just for kids, you're about to see your tax dollars at work!

Smoky Hill Library (Arapahoe County)[/caption]
When: June 3 - July 30
Who: All ages (0-adult)
Readers are WANTED! Registration for this top-notch,
western-themed reading program begins May 20 online, or you can visit your favorite Arapahoe library starting June 3 to pick up a reading log and other materials. But the
Summer Reading Kick-off Events, held June 3-9, at various library locations, really take the cake. You'll enjoy games and entertainment of all types! Also, don't forget all the
many events that Arapahoe libraries hold throughout the summer to keep kids active and involved in the community. Arapahoe's
web site is specifically interactive because they list recommended books for each age level!

Aurora Public Library - Central[/caption]
When: June 1 - August 1
Who: All ages (0-adult)
Registration for the
Build a Better World program begins on June 1 at your local branch (or online!) and will continue throughout the summer. There will be tons of free prizes and rewards for reaching your reading goals, as well as fun events held at the different library branch locations all summer long!

Broomfield Library[/caption]
When: June 1 - July 29
Who: All ages (0-teen)
This Build a Better World reading program is split into two age groups:
Birth-5th Grade and
Grades 6-12. Online registration began May 14, but you can start registering at the library in person on June 1. The sooner you pick up your reading log, the sooner you can start tracking your reading and earning prizes! There are separate reading logs and challenges to meet the needs of kids of all ages. Then, as you achieve each challenge level, be sure to come back to the library and claim your prize!
But get this: Broomfield's library offers kids a whole lot more than reading, too. Bookmark this page and check out the great events for
younger kids and
teenagers, all summer long. Events and activities include family movie nights, Jedi training, apocalyptic writing workshops, and robot building -- just to name a few!

Denver Public Library - Central[/caption]
When: June 1 - August 12
Who: All ages (0-teen)
Denver's Summer of Adventure reading program also splits kids into two age groups:
Birth-Preschool and
Grades K-12. First day of registration is June 1 at your
favorite Denver library branch.
Kids and teens can earn prizes all summer long, from FREE Elitch Gardens tickets to books and coupons, as well as opportunities to win tickets to the Denver Zoo, Denver Museum of Nature and Science, the Denver Outlaws, and the Children's Museum. Just keep reading, and these
amazing prizes could be
yours!

Highlands Ranch Library (Douglas County)[/caption]
When: June 3
There's not a ton of info available just yet, but
Douglas County's summer reading program will begin on June 3, with a slew of kick-off party events at their various branch locations! Stay tuned for more details!

Jefferson County Public Library - Columbine branch[/caption]
When: June 1 - July 31
Who: All ages (0-19+)
This
Build a Better World reading program from Jefferson County starts registration (either online or at the library) on June 1. There are
lots of great prizes being awarded to kids who reach their goals throughout the summer. This program is super-convenient because you can actually log your reading hours online!

Westminster Library - Irving branch[/caption]
When: June 3 - July 30
Who: Ages 0-11
Westminster is also participating in the
Build a Better World program. You can register online or in person, and you should plan to attend the Summer Reading Kick-off block party on Friday, June 2 , at 6 p.m. (Irving Street location). In addition to picking up your reading log, you can enjoy park festivities and watch the live-action film "The Jungle Book" at dusk.
