Weekend weather will remain windy, with a Wind Advisory extended until 6 p.m. Sunday for portions of Maui County and Hawaii Island. There’s also an increase in showers and humidity levels, thanks in part to an upper level disturbance moving over Hawaii Island, which could bring periods of heavy rain and isolated thunderstorms over the eastern end of the state. The rest of the island chain will see an increase in windward showers. More stable conditions will move in Tuesday while the gusty winds hit the brakes and become light and variable by midweek as the high pressure fan is pushed aside by a strong cold front to the north. The front itself is not expected to reach us, but we’ll get the dry conditions and light winds ahead of it for the latter part of the work week. A High Surf Advisory continues for east-facing shores of all islands for rough waves in the 8 to 12 foot range. Surf on north and west shores might get a small boost Sunday, while south shores will remain small for the next several days. For mariners, a Gale Warning remains in effect until 6 a.m. Monday for coastal and channel waters around Maui County and Hawaii Island, with a Small Craft Advisory for remaining coastal and channel waters.
