A Whataburger spokesman said a tentative opening date is set for this summer, but it may shift depending on staffing, equipment availability and other reasons. Now, there are numerous locations open for business in Lawrence and the Kansas City area. Topeka’s Whataburger has been in the works for months, slowly being pieced together on the spot of the former Wild Horse Saloon . Chick-Fil-A also opened a new spot in the same area late last year.
