TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - Football is back on the highest of seven hills, as Florida A&M kicked off spring practice bright and early Friday morning, and while getting just one practice in before taking a week off for spring break wasn’t exactly in the plans, this team happy to be back on the field together. “This would have been our third practice,” said head coach James Colzie III. “With the snow and losing some days of lifting, I didn’t want to lose those, so it kind of pushed us back, but it was important to get this day in.” “Third spring here, definitely has to be the best spring,” said tight end Koby Gross. “I’m excited about this year, the spring. The whole offseason period before spring went really well.” Big storyline as FAMU gets spring ball rolling? Just like last year, it’s the question of who will take snaps come fall. With Daniel Richardson gone to graduation, Central Michigan transfer Tyler Jefferson is in the mix, and the quarterback room is ready to work, and ready to get better. “The most important position at Florida A&M is the quarterback position,” said Colzie. “We’ll take our time making that decision, but those guys today did a good job executing what was asked.” One thing is certain, this group not happy with last years 7-5 mark, and the work to get the Rattlers back on top begins now. “We had a players only meeting the first day of spring back in January,” said linebacker Nay’ron Jenkins. “Everybody came in and spoke their peace and we implemented the rules. There was no back and forth. Everybody was like, alright, we’re going to follow through.” “I think we had more of a grip on what we were trying to do this year, and that’s the be in Atlanta in December,” added Gross. “Out of all the years I’ve been here, this is probably the closest we’ve ever been as a team.” The Rattlers are off next week for spring break. They’ll return to practice on March 18th. To keep up with the latest news as it develops, follow WCTV on Facebook , Instagram , Bluesky and X ( Twitter ).
