Walks and errors proved costly as Florida baseball dropped the second game of its three-game series, falling 9-6 to Alabama on May 16 at Condron Family Ballpark. Down 9-2, the Florida Gators (36-19, 14-15 SEC) rallied for four runs in the bottom of the ninth on a two-RBI double by Boser, sac fly by Brendan Lawson and RBI single by Ty Evans. But with Evans on first and two outs, catcher Brody Donay popped out in foul territory to first base to end the game. No. 16 Alabama (40-14, 16-3 SEC) broke a 2-2 tie with a five-run fifth inning and maintained the lead for the remainder of the game. The Crimson Tide went ahead 4-2, scoring two runs on an error when Boser failed to field a potential double play grounder at shortstop from center fielder Richie Bonomolo Jr. Then, with two outs and the bases loaded, Alabama catcher Brady Neal laced a bases clearing, three-RBI double, extending the Tide’s lead to 7-2. Boser's miscue was one of three Florida errors committed during the game. Florida pitchers also combined to walk five batters and hit one batter. Florida lefty starter Pierce Coppola allowed two runs on three hits with 10 strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings before being pulled at 67 pitches. Righty Billy Barlow lasted just 2/3 innings in relief of Coppola, allowing three runs (one earned) and three walks to take the loss. Florida will start lefty Pierce Coppola (3-0, 1.15 ERA) against Alabama righty Riley Quick (7-2, 3.53 ERA). Coppola is coming off an outing in which he pitched two scoreless innings on May 9 at Texas to earn his third win of the season. Florida took an early 2-0 lead on RBI singles by Donay in the first inning and Boser in the second inning before Alabama scored nine unanswered runs. Riley Quick (8-2) got the win for Alabama, allowing two runs on six hits with seven strikeouts over five innings. But Alabama righty closer Carson Ozmer was shaky finishing the game, allowing four runs on four hits in throwing 50 pitches over two innings. UF and Alabama will meet in the rubber game of the three game series on Saturday at 4 p.m. (SEC Network Plus). Freshman righty Aidan King (5-2, 2.90 ERA) will start for UF against Alabama lefty Zane Adams (7-2, 4.84 ERA).
