The Florida basketball program added another piece to its roster puzzle on Thursday with the addition of former Ohio Bobcats guard AJ Brown, who committed to the Gators through the NCAA transfer portal. He joins his younger brother Isaiah in Gainesville for his redshirt junior campaign as Todd Golden and crew look to defend their national championship crown. The elder Brown made just one official visit this spring with Florida earlier this week before making his decision. The 6-foot-4-inch, 210-pound originally out of Orlando (Florida) Christian Prep arrived in Athens, Ohio, rated at three stars as a high school prospect and played in 28 games, making six starts during the 2022-23 campaign. That season, he averaged 10.3 points — on 42.6 % overall from the field, 37.5% from beyond the arc and 77.6% from the free-throw line — along with 2.5 rebounds; he also logged 22 assists and 21 steals. Brown only managed to play in nine games the following season before an injury forced him to take a redshirt. During the 2024-25 campaign, he returned to start all 29 of Ohio's games, averaging 13.2 points — on 47.1% from the field, 38.8% from beyond the arc and 82.0% from the charity stripe — along with 3.2 rebounds per game; he also dished out 32 assists and snagged 37 steals. He was named to the Preseason All-MAC Team as well as Academic All-MAC this past season. Upon his entry into the transfer portal, he was rated at four stars by 247Sports. The Brown brothers are joined by transfer Xaivian Lee, freshman Alex Lloyd and Urban Klavžar in next season's guard rotation for the Florida Gators .
