BROOKSVILLE, Fla. (CBS12) — A routine traffic stop turned into a drug bust, as deputies discovered over 33 grams of fentanyl and various illegal substances hidden in a sedan, leading to the arrest of a 53-year-old Florida man.

The Hernando County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) said that on April 12, deputies conducted a routine patrol when they spotted a green sedan traveling westbound on Cortez Boulevard.

Deputies reported that the vehicle had multiple equipment violations, including malfunctioning brake lights and an inoperable tag light, prompting deputies to initiate a traffic stop.

According to HCSO, upon contacting the driver and a passenger, identified as Robert Camacho, the driver admitted that the brake lights were not working properly.

The driver allegedly consented to a search of the vehicle, assuring deputies there "should be no drugs in the vehicle."

During the search, deputies reported finding a significant amount of illegal substances, including 33.9 grams of fentanyl, 0.8 grams of heroin, 12.1 grams of methamphetamine, and 17.9 grams of marijuana, as well as several items of drug-related paraphernalia.

Camacho was arrested and accused of Trafficking in Fentanyl, Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of a Controlled Substance (Heroin), Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Paraphernalia.
