BATON ROUGE, La. (WCJB) -The No. 2 Florida Gators defeated LSU 79-65 on Saturday to secure their sixth consecutive victory.

Florida was led by double-doubles from Thomas Haugh and Rueben Chinyelu. The Gators grabbed 19 offensive rebounds and scored 17 second-chance points. Chinyelu posted a career-high 19 points and 13 rebounds, while Haugh added 16 points and 10 rebounds in his third consecutive start. Four of Florida’s five starters scored in double figures, with Walter Clayton Jr. contributing 13 points and Alijah Martin adding 14.

After a quick 7-4 lead, Florida went on an 11-0 run, including two 3-pointers from Denzel Aberdeen and Martin, to take a double-digit lead with 13 minutes left in the first half. However, the Gators struggled after that, and LSU capitalized.

LSU rallied to turn a 29-15 deficit into a 37-31 lead at halftime, thanks to a 14-0 run. The Tigers tied the game at 3:22 left in the first half and took their first lead off a 3-pointer from Dji Bailey. LSU hit five 3-pointers in the final seven minutes of the half, including two from Mike Williams. Robert Miller III also scored nine points during that stretch, finishing with 19 points and 10 rebounds off the bench. Florida’s only score during this run came from Aberdeen, who ended a nearly three-minute scoring drought with a jumper. The Gators shot just 2-for-16 over the last nine minutes of the half.

Florida regained momentum early in the second half, with Clayton Jr. scoring five straight points, including an and-one on a fast break, to bring the Gators within three points. He later added a jumper to make it a one-point game before the officials overturned a goaltending call on Chinyelu, giving Florida its first lead since the first half.

With just under 11 minutes remaining, Aberdeen’s layup capped a 9-0 run for Florida. Haugh then added two field goals and an offensive rebound to record his third double-double of the season.

Chinyelu continued to contribute offensively, scoring seven points in the first 10 minutes of the second half to keep the Gators within reach. Florida stretched its lead to double digits with 4:16 remaining after a 3-pointer and an and-one from Martin. Martin’s six points sparked a 14-0 run, sealing the victory for the Gators.

Next up, Florida heads to Georgia on Tuesday to attempt a regular season sweep of the Bulldogs and their former head coach Mike White. Tipoff is at 7 p.m. ET, and the game will be broadcast on SEC Network.
