FLORISSANT — Two years after a controversial deal to build housing in a public park, Florissant is poised to join a handful of local governments requiring voters approve such park redevelopment in the future. The City Council will vote Monday on whether to ask voters to change the charter to require a public vote on any proposed sale, transfer, long-term lease or commercial redevelopment of the city’s parks. If approved, voters would weigh in on the proposed charter change in the April 2026 election. The measure comes at the urging of dozens of residents upset with a city decision in 2023 to give part of Koch Park to McBride Homes to build a new subdivision, in return for bluff land the developer bought to build a second subdivision. The unusual arrangement was criticized by residents who opposed giving public land to a private developer without a sale and without a public vote.
