SALINA, Kan. (KAKE) - A former Kansas school teacher and coach has been sentenced to nearly eight years in prison for child sex crimes.

Barry Fritz, 61, was sentenced to 61 months for aggravated indecent liberties and 32 months for aggravated solicitation of a child. Each sentence will run consecutively.

KSAL Radio reports that back in November 2021, police were sent to Salina Regional Health Center on reports of a sex offense involving a person under 14 years old. The victim told police about an incident at a south Salina residence involving inappropriate activities.

An investigation resulted in Fritz's arrest in March 2022, and he was convicted of aggravated indecent liberties and aggravated solicitation of a child in November 2023.

Fritz formerly taught and coached at Salina Sacred Heart and at Canton-Galva USD 419.
