ALLEN PARK -- Jamal Agnew, a former All-Pro return specialist for the Detroit Lions, has signed with the Atlanta Falcons.

Agnew spent the first four seasons of his career with the Lions after getting drafted in 2017’s fifth round. He was a first-team All-Pro punt returner as a rookie after leading the NFL with 447 return yards with two scores and a 15.4-yard average.

He made the move from defensive back to wide receiver during his final season with the franchise in 2020. He landed with the Jacksonville Jaguars, made his first Pro Bowl, and carved out a depth receiver role. In three seasons with the Jaguars, Agnew caught 61 passes for 641 yards and five touchdowns.

Agnew was all about special teams in Detroit, with four punt-return touchdowns and one kick-return touchdown through his first four seasons. He also returned one kickoff for a score while in Jacksonville for three seasons, but still remains tied as the active NFL leader with four career punt-return touchdowns.

The 29-year-old did not play last season, spending the year on Pittsburgh’s practice squad after suffering a leg injury late in 2023. Agnew rejoins Falcons special teams coordinator Marquice Williams in Atlanta, as well. Williams was an assistant special teams coach for a short spell with Agnew in Detroit.
