ANDERSON — Former Madison County Sheriff and Alexandria Mayor Ron Richardson died Wednesday night after a years-long battle with colon cancer.

Richardson, 68, served two terms as sheriff, winning election in 2006 and 2010. He retired at the end of his second term after 39 years as a member of the sheriff's department.
