Fort Collins made Outside Magazine's annual "Best Towns Ever" list and was named as the "Best Bike-to-Happy-Hour-Town" of 2017!
Fort Collins has 20-plus breweries and over 300 miles of bike lanes, so it makes sense why Outside Magazine named the Colorado city as the "Best Bike-to-Happy-Hour-Town" of 2017 in their annual "Best Towns Ever" list. And if there's anything Fort Collins is known for, it's bikes and brews.
This college town in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains has over 20 breweries, most notably New Belgium and Odell. Borrow a cruiser from Fort Collins Bike Share and you can even put together a self-guided tour of local breweries (median household income: $56,000)."
Salida was the only other Colorado city to make the list. It was named as the "Best Unsung Mountain Town" for its 100 miles of whitewater fishing, alpine single track, and its accessibility to Monarch Mountain and various restaurants.
Some other notable cities in the list include Anchorage, Alaska ("Best City for Making the Most of Summer"); Santa Fe, New Mexico ("Best Combination of Mountains and Margaritas"); and Portland, Maine ("Best Top-End Food in Zero-Degree Weather"). You can view the full list here.
In previous issues, Outside would publish a bracket of 64 towns and readers could vote for their favorites. Durango, Steamboat Springs, Denver, Aspen, Salida, and Gunnison were all listed, with Steamboat Springs making the top eight in last year's list.
This year was different, with a council of experts picking a list of 25 towns instead of the readers voting on their favorites. The issue of Outside Magazine is set to hit newsstands in July 2017.
