The Capital One Arena isn't the only place to catch some big names live. These intimate venues will give you a concert experience like no other.
9:30 Club
A staple in the area for a few decades, 9:30 Club is a very intimate standing-room-only venue. Located in the U Street area, 9:30 Club regularly welcomes rock bands, hip-hop stars, DJs, and other artists from across the world. If you regularly attend concerts, I highly suggest signing up for the "Friends with Benefits" club membership that will give you points, discounts, and early access to shows throughout the year and at other venues as well.
Rock & Roll Hotel

Disclaimer: I have to admit that I'm a little obsessed with this place. Right in the heart of H Street is one of the most exciting concert venues and bars you will find around town. This is a really great place to find undiscovered musicians at a really cheap price. Tickets can cost as little as $12, and I've never seen them go above $35. Another standing-room-only club, some of your throwback favorite bands perform here, along with local musicians. And head up to the second floor after the show where there's a bar and (typically) a DJ. Then head up even farther to the rooftop bar. This is a perfect date night spot!
Echostage
Many of you have heard of Echostage, located at the edge of Northeast D.C. This venue reminds me of some famous New York City clubs like Webster Hall. Even though it feels massive, again, this is an intimate atmosphere bringing top DJs like Diplo and top hip-hop stars like Migos and Cardi B to the District. There are massive light shows and other effects during the concert to give you a great experience.
Songbyrd Café and Music House

What a cool place Songbyrd in Adams Morgan is. This venue will transport you to a more nostalgic time. With a record store, café, and bar located upstairs, it's a great place to get ready for the concert downstairs! In the basement, there's a small stage and a small bar off to the side bringing you cover bands, ukulele bands, and local artists. Not many folks can fit downstairs so you are sure to be right in the face of those singing. Come here for happy hour and date night and stay to find the best of what D.C.'s music scene has to offer.
