FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) - A Go Fund Me page has been set up to help Bennett Brien pay for his medical costs.

Brien is a native of Belcourt, North Dakota, and has been a prominent artist in the state since graduating from the University of North Dakota with BFA and MFA degrees in sculpture. He has pieces in such locations as the Grand Forks police station and the state capitol grounds in Bismarck. He’s likely best known for his Sioux logo design, which was used by the university for a decade before the Sioux name was permanently retired.

The Go Fund Me page says that Brien was diagnosed with stomach cancer in August of last year. He is currently undergoing chemotherapy.

The Brien family has also arranged a benefit that will be held Thursday, May 23rd from 5 to 8 P.M. They are accepting items to be donated for a silent auction.
