Georgia coach Kirby Smart is arguably the most accomplished coach in college football following the retirement of Nick Saban in January.

And now, he’s the highest paid, too.

Smart signed a two-year contract extension this week that will raise his annual salary to $13 million, the school announced. That will make him the highest-paid college football coach at a public school, according to USA Today.

Smart was previously set to make $10.75 million in 2024 before his new contract raised his annual pay by $2.25 million per season. That raise moved him past Clemson coach Dabo Swinney, who is set to make $11 million this year as the second-highest paid coach in the game.

Smart can also make a maximum of $1.55 million in bonuses, up from $1.3 million. His contract now runs until December, 2033.

Smart has gone 42-2 over the last three seasons, winning back-to-back national titles in 2021 and 2022. Last season, Georgia went 13-1, with its only loss to Alabama in the SEC championship game.

Saban made $11.1 million last season as the highest-paid coach in college football. Ohio State’s Ryan Day was the fourth-highest paid coach behind Saban, Swinney and Smart.
