Amazon will open a new bookstore on 7117 Arlington Road sometime next summer. The location is one of three currently under construction.
As D.C., Maryland, and Virginia continue the battle to woo Amazon in building its new headquarters location, it's been revealed that a new bookstore is opening on Bethesda Row. The new store will be located on Arlington Road in downtown Bethesda, in the space that was previously home to Urban Country home furniture store. Urban Country is moving next door. While an exact date has not been set, the company has already started hiring workers and expects it to be ready and operating sometime this summer. The $1.5 million renovation project received the county’s permission, gaining a building permit last November. [caption id="attachment_7472" align="aligncenter" width="640"]
Amazon will fill the 6,000-foot space with books based mainly on customer reviews and sales figures, as well as Fire TV, Echo, Fire Tablet and Kindle devices. Customers who have Amazon Prime memberships will have the convenience of buying items typically sold online, in-store -- listed as online prices and without shipping costs.
Amazon currently has 13 bookstore locations across the country, and three more are under construction as part of the company’s overall plan to open 400 stores nationwide, including the one in Bethesda Row; Austin, Texas; and another one in Georgetown.
