Maryland residents who will be consuming alcohol this holiday season should take advantage of free rides home, from December 15 until January 1.
As thousands of drunk driving accidents, injuries and deaths occur every year, risking an accident and costly traffic citations is simply not worth it, especially when free rides are available from D.C.'s Sober Ride and other programs nationwide during the holidays. If you are one of the many area residents who plans to attend holiday parties and gatherings in the next few weeks, and will be consuming eggnog and other alcoholic beverages, you should make sure to take advantage of the Washington Regional Alcohol Program's Sober Ride service. Free rides home will be available via Lyft ride service. Many probably haven't heard of Sober Ride, but the program has been around a while. It provided free rides home to patrons through a phone number and cab services. In the Washington, D.C. metro area, free rides will be available during the holidays -- in most of Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, Prince William, Prince Georges and Montgomery counties as well as the entire District of Columbia.
The program offers free rides to all local area residents who are age 21 and over. Those who wish to take advantage of the offer can do so by entering a promo code into the Lyft app. Entering the promo gets patrons free rides valued at up to $15 within the ride service’s D.C. coverage area.
Partygoers can get the free ride codes from Sober Ride’s website at 2 p.m. on December 15 when the offer period begins, then again on December 23 and December 31. If you are uncertain of Lyft’s coverage area, the fare cost of your trip or need to download the app, visit Lyft’s Washington D.C. area website.
If you have not used Lyft, it's fairly easy. On the app or webpage, customers enter their current location and destination, wait to be picked up, and are then dropped off. All that is required is a payment method such as credit or debit card under each user's online account, which will only be charged when a ride is requested and given without a promo code.
