Your next birthday cake choice has been cinched. Unilever is bringing Viennetta back!

It was a familiar sight during any TGIF: the commercial starts with a super high-gloss black table set for a chic dinner party, and the hands of an unseen hostess deliver an ice cream cake on a literal silver platter before serving slices in glass stemware. Who does that? Fancy people, which is what every single '90s kid wanted to be when they asked for the iconic ice cream dessert, Viennetta.

Viennetta was a simple dessert made irresistible by its unique presentation. Originally sold in the U.S. by Good Humor before shifting to the Breyers label, it combined vanilla ice cream (later iterations included chocolate, pistachio, or frozen yogurt rather than vanilla ice cream) in undulating waves with layers of crispy chocolate. The unique wave pattern, chic European sounding name, and over-the-top commercials—the one where the last slice is swiped after the curtains billow and the candles go out takes the (ice cream) cake—all conspired to make it seem like the height of sophisticated, rich indulgence. So much so, in fact, that 30 years after it left the market, many people fondly remember wanting to indulge and regret never having the opportunity.

Regret, no longer!

Unilever announced this week, as part of a huge press release, that Good Humor is jumping on the nostalgia train and bringing Viennetta back to grocery stores starting this month, saying, “Viennetta, the beloved classic take on an ice cream cake, has finally returned to the U.S., thanks to Good Humor! Fans have clamored for Viennetta's return for almost 30 years, and in 2021, Good Humor grants their wish."

So go get your fancy-pants ready and set the table with the good plates, it's time to realize those childhood dreams!
