Say hello to more than 1,500 adorable furry friends at the Smithsonian's National Zoo -- for FREE!
Founded in 1889, the Smithsonian's National Zoo is home to more than 1,500 animals across 300 different species. And you can see them all for no cost! That's right, admission is free. The Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute (SCBI), which is part of the National Zoo, focuses on saving wildlife species from extinction and training future generations of conservationists. SCBI tackles today's most complex challenges by taking what they've learned about animal behavior and reproduction, ecology, genetics, and much more.
With 12 exhibits at your disposal, there are plenty of animals and wildlife for you to feast your eyes on. From the massive elephants to large cats, all the way to the small reptiles and birds, these beautiful animals will give you the opportunity to travel the world.

You can view the entire list of animals here. Also, if you're inclined, there are also webcams of the lions, pandas, and the elephants that you can view and get an up close look you can't really get at the zoo.
