Girl Scout cookie season officially starts Sunday, Jan. 12; are you ready to stock up on your favorites?

Girl Scouts in El Paso, Midland and Odessa in Texas and parts of New Mexico are preparing to kick off cookie sales. They’ll be selling door-to-door in neighborhoods and setting up cookie booths outside businesses like Walmart, Patty Craven, CEO of the Girl Scouts of the Desert Southwest, said.

"This year, we’re thrilled to have 1,303 Girl Scouts participating in the cookie program so far. Typically, more girls get involved as the season progresses. It’s inspiring to see so many young entrepreneurs embrace this opportunity to develop their skills, set goals, and engage with their communities," Craven said.

Most popular Girl Scout cookies

The Girl Scouts, from 5-year-old Daisies to high school Ambassadors, will be selling nine varieties from ABC Bakers this year. The cookie lineup should be familiar to cookie lovers.

The cookies are Thin Mints, Lemonades, Caramel Delites, Trefoils, Adventurefuls, Peanut Butter Patties, Peanut Butter Sandwiches, Caramel Chocolate Chip (which are gluten-free), and Toast-Yay. Each package of cookies costs $6; there is no price increase from last year.

Craven said Thin Mints, the chocolate wafers covered in a mint-flavored chocolate coating, are still the most popular flavor.

Girl Scout troops within the region placed an initial order for all cookies at the end of 2024. Historically, these 137,000 cookies are sold within the first two weeks of the season, with troops returning to restock supplies to meet continued demand.

"With ABC Bakers, some of the most popular cookies include Thin Mints (20.3% of initial order), Caramel deLites (19.9% of initial order), and Peanut Butter Patties (11.9% of initial order). For statistics, our Lemonades are 9.9%, Peanut Butter Sandwiches 8.7%, Toast-Yays 8.4%, Adventurefuls 8.2%, Trefoils 8.1% and the gluten-free Caramel Chocolate Chips 4.6%.

"These are all numbers from our initial order. When it comes to Girl Scout Cookies, I have to say everyone recognizes the Thin Mints and Caramel deLites," she said.

What Girl Scout cookies are being discontinued?

This year will be the last year for Toast-Yay, the French toast-inspired cookies covered in icing.

"Toast-Yays have been a unique and fun addition to our lineup, with their French toast-inspired flavor and cheerful design. Personally, they are currently my favorite Girl Scout cookie. I love them with my morning coffee. While we’ll miss them, ABC Bakers consistently introduces exciting new cookies that keep our program fresh and appealing. It’s a bittersweet goodbye, but we’re excited for what’s next," Craven said.

In other parts of the country, Girl Scout councils sell cookies made by another baker, Little Brownie Bakers. That baker will be retiring the Smore's cookies after the 2025 season.

The retiring cookies follow the Raspberry Rally, which appeared in 2022 and discontinued in 2023.

When is Girl Scout cookie season?

The Girl Scout cookie season will be from Jan. 12 through March 2.

How to buy Girl Scout cookies

The Girl Scout council in the Southwest partners with businesses that allow Girl Scouts to sell cookies outside their storefronts.

Some include weekends at the following Walmart stores: 13900 Horizon Blvd., 7831 Paseo Del Norte Blvd., and 10840 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. To find out other cookie booths, go to: gsdsw.org/en/cookies/find-cookies.html .

Where does money from Girl Scout cookies go?

Every box sold benefits local Girl Scouts and their communities. Proceeds help fund troop activities, community service projects, camps, and Girl Scout programs focused on leadership, STEM, and outdoor adventures. Additionally, the funds provide financial assistance to ensure every girl can participate in the Girl Scout experience.

"When you buy a box of cookies, you’re supporting life-changing opportunities for girls in our community," Craven said.
