Osakis girls defeat Pillager, Upsala
The Osakis girls basketball team ended the regular season with a pair of wins on the road road on Thursday, Feb. 20, and Friday, Feb. 21. Osakis defeated Pillager 62-28, on Thursday, Feb. 20, then beat Upsala 49-38 on Friday, Feb. 21. "We had a great effort versus Pillager,” Osakis head coach Pat Kalpin said. “From the start, we played with great energy which allowed us to build a comfortable lead at halftime. Defensively we worked hard, and, we were able to hit shots which helped open up different options throughout the game. Greta Faber hit some early threes for us that got things going for us. It was good to see the balanced scoring and the number of assists we had in this game. It was an overall great team effort again." “The Upsala win was a great ending to our regular season,” Kalpin said. “Coming into the game, we had already wrapped up the conference title, but we knew that this game was significant for that purpose with section play coming up and seeding. In the first half, we struggled scoring a bit, but we were still able to hang in there and play fairly well. I thought that in the second half we played great. We moved the ball well offensively, and defensively, we were able to take away some strengths that Upsala has. We felt all the girls contributed well and did their part. Once again, it was nice to see the balanced scoring and the girls play well together, which is what you like to see at the end of the season.” Greta Faber led Osakis’ offense in its game against Pillager (8-18) with 18 points, while Annie Anderson led Osakis in rebounds with 10. Taylor Dirkes led Osakis’ offense against Upsala as she had 13 points. Bella Weisser hauled in 12 rebounds to go along with nine points for Osakis.
