Jules Gonzales scored eight goals and assisted on six Thursday when Wyoming Area defeated host Wilkes-Barre Area 16-5 in a Wyoming Valley Conference game to extend its girls lacrosse winning streak to six games.

Addison Byers added six goals in the win.

Ava Menditto and Braiden Llewellyn also scored.

The Lady Warriors have scored at least 14 goals in every game of the winning streak and have outscored opponents 92-39 during that time. They improved to 8-4 in the conference and 9-4 overall.

Pittston Area broke an 11-game losing streak with Wednesday’s victory.

The Lady Patriots had not won since their opener.

Wyoming Area clinched a spot in the District 2 Class 2A playoffs with the April 28 victory at Tenth Street Field.

Jules Gonzales matched a career-high with nine goals April 22 as Wyoming Area won at Pittston Area.

“It feels good,” said Gonzales, who also scored nine last year against Holy Redeemer. “My teammates and I work together really well, especially on the midfield line. (Addison Byers), Lyla (Rehill) and I work well on the draw and pass the ball up through the midfield.”

There were no passes necessary on the first of four third-quarter and six second-half goals by Gonzales. She picked up a groundball on defense and carried it the length of the field before scoring.

A little more than a minute later, Gonzales scored when Wyoming Area had a one-player advantage. She made it three in a row off a free position shot for a 10-3 lead midway through the quarter.

The Lady Warriors found many ways to score.

“We have our plays on offense that just open gaps for everyone, then it’s just about having confidence,” Gonzales said.

Rehill, who had an assist, and Byers each added three goals.

Gonzales and Rehill, close friends who play well together in the midfield, have taken turns leading the team’s offense.

“They are a 1-2 punch working off each other,” Lady Warriors coach Carl DeLuca said. “They pick up on what’s going on and then we have Addy and Ava if teams are going to double them.

“We’ve been working on transition. We had been slow on transition. We’re moving it up and getting it down to people in front of the defense to take the shot that we need to take.”

Ashlynn Seldon scored five goals, including the 50 ^th of her career, for Pittston Area. Haley Pointek scored twice.

The win was the first of four in as many days for Wyoming Area to begin the six-game winning streak. The team is 9-2 since starting 0-2.

DeLuca said the team played well in the last game before the winning streak started.

“We’re progressing the way we want to,” DeLuca said. “We played strong against Crestwood last week. We’re going to keep building on that as we move forward.

“We have two freshmen in the game, sometimes three at a time, so we have a young team that we’re using with our three seniors.”

Jules Gonzales followed up her nine-goal game with seven goals in the road victory the next day.

Addison Byers had four goals and an assist while Lyla Rehill had a goal and seven assists.

Ava Menditto scored twice.

The high-scoring road show continued with a win at Hazleton Area April 24.

Lyla Rehill had six goals and controlled three draws.

Gonzales added five goals and four draw controls.

Addison Byers controlled 10 draws with each leading to scores. She also scored three of the goals.

Wyoming Area made it four straight wins with the April 25 victory at Lake-Lehman.

Addison Byers led the way with five goals while Jules Gonzales and Lyla Rehill added four each.

Visiting Wyoming Seminary dropped Pittston Area’s record to 1-10 with a victory Tuesday.
