Gov. Glenn Youngkin confirmed Friday that he has ordered the Virginia National Guard to be available to stage at weekend No Kings Day protests across the state.

Because of course he is doing that, with more than three dozen local protests on the schedule across the Commonwealth throughout the day on Saturday, including, locally, in Staunton and Charlottesville .

The events have been in the works for weeks, which is to say, they’re not a response to the anti-Trump administration protest movement that has started gaining steam in the wake of what has been going down in Los Angeles in the past week in response to a series of soulless ICE immigration raids.

Donald Trump ordered the National Guard and U.S. Marines to LA in response to the protests, which have been centered at a federal detention center building in downtown LA, and have largely been peaceful.

Kristi Noem , Trump’s Homeland Security person, gave away the game when she Freudian slipped at a press conference yesterday that the troops were deployed “to liberate this city from the socialists.”

See, because, if your city didn’t vote for Trump, that means it’s run by socialists, and it needs to be liberated.

As far as our recent history of local anti-Trump protests are concerned, the only examples of lawlessness came from our MAGA counter-protestors.

The stories there: a guy who runs a wrecker service faces a criminal reckless-driving charge for menacing protestors at an April 5 rally in Staunton, which also had a report to police about a man brandishing a gun at protestors while stopped at a stoplight in front of the rally site; and an Augusta County man was briefly detained by police after shouting death threats at protestors at an April 19 event in Staunton.

Maybe that’s who Youngkin is going to be protecting us from: you know, the people who voted for him in 2021.

“Let’s be really clear. There will be no violence, there will be no looting, there will be no damage to personal or business property. We cannot allow people to put people’s lives in jeopardy by disrupting traffic or anything along those lines. If you break the law, you’re going to be arrested,” Youngkin told reporters after a public event in Virginia Beach on Friday.

Well, so, good news there.

The idiots who want to roll coal, brandish guns and shout death threats are going to be arrested.

Right?

Wait, you think he’s calling out the Guard to try to intimidate people from protesting?

Come to think of it, Staunton and Charlottesville voted for Kamala Harris in 2024.

Maybe they’re going to liberate Staunton and Charlottesville from the socialists.
