HUDSON FALLS — The third quarter of Friday night's game was a perfect example of how quickly the Glens Falls boys basketball team can change momentum.

Jaymison Eisenhardt's dunk for Hudson Falls with just under five minutes left in the period had pulled the Tigers within 51-36 of Glens Falls.

And then the Black Bears answered. And answered. And answered.

In a span of three minutes, Glens Falls erupted for a 15-0 run as its lead ballooned to 66-36. Fueled by turnovers and fast breaks, the Black Bears finished the third quarter on a 23-2 run after Eisenhardt's dunk, well on their way to an 87-49 Foothills Council victory over Hudson Falls in a clash of two of the league's top teams.

"They came out and went on a little run themselves, and we answered, and that's what you have to do. When people go on runs, you have to be ready to answer," said senior guard Brody Holcomb, who finished with a game-high 28 points, 17 in the first half.

Aiden Prunty added 20 points for Glens Falls, which also got 15 from Kellen Driscoll. The Black Bears scored the first 11 points of the game, then outscored Hudson Falls 28-9 in the third quarter, knocking down six 3-pointers in that period.

"Just making shots — we get the open shots, we've just got to keep knocking them down. When we get on runs like that, it's really hard to stop us," said Driscoll, a senior forward. "It's really tough to cover when you've got five guys that can all willingly make shots, all willing to share the ball."

Defense provided the spark for Glens Falls' decisive run. The Tigers (6-3, 10-3) were led by Jayden Hardwick's 11 points. Eisenhardt, Brady Smith and Cam Barber each netted eight.

"Just defense — 94 feet the whole game, pressing, and it's just steals and transition. We like to get out and run, and that's what we did," Holcomb said. "We got off to a hot start early, an 11-0 run early, and just fed off that energy all night. Our defense was up in them all night, and defense just leads to offense."

"They're relentless," Glens Falls head coach Rob Girard said of his defense. "We're able to put pressure on the ball and make people feel uncomfortable. When we do that, our running game gets going, our shots get going. I didn't think we shot great tonight, but some guys got it going and it was good to see."

The Black Bears improved to 9-0 in the league, 11-0 overall, giving them 38 consecutive victories heading into this weekend's Hoophall Invitational in Springfield, Massachusetts. That will present a true mid-season test for Glens Falls.

"I think we're finally getting in a stretch here where all our basketball qualities are starting to show," Girard said. "Aiden's getting going, our football guys are all set, Kellen's finally healthy. I think we're doing pretty well."

Glens Falls is scheduled to play Nassau County's Lawrence Woodmere Academy, a private-school team with a lot of height, on Saturday at 5 p.m. Woodmere is coached by a familiar name to followers of the old Federation Tournament when it was played in Glens Falls: Dwayne (Tiny) Morton, who coached PSAL powerhouse Abraham Lincoln to three Federation titles, is coaching Woodmere.

On Sunday, the Black Bears face New Britain (Conn.) at 6 p.m. Both games are at the Rebecca Johnson School in Springfield.

"I'm expecting two really good teams that we've got to play," Girard said. "They've got some length, they've got some athletes, they can shoot it. They play competition every day. So we've got our hands full.

"That's why we did it — we want to compete against teams like that and see where the real report card is," Girard added.

"We're going play some really good teams, so we're going to see how we match up with some of the best around the East Coast," Driscoll said.

Even the prospect of playing three games in three days didn't faze the Bears.

"It's gonna be a big test for us," Holcomb said. "We're going out there to play great teams, so we have to come in and play our game and compete. After football season, we're midway through the year now, so it's just uphill from here."

"We're playing well, we're sharing the ball, but we've got to keep going, got to keep climbing the hill, keep playing our best," Driscoll added.
