Gloomy & cool weather will continue through early Saturday. Warmer weather with severe storms are possible Sunday. High temperatures this afternoon likely won't rise out of the 50s for most locations. The cloudy skies from this morning may gradually erode for some breaks of sunshine. This would happen during the mid to late afternoon period. Any partial clearing may fill back in with low clouds and areas of fog after sunset. Expect mainly cloudy skies overnight with a few areas of patchy mist, drizzle, and fog possible into the Friday morning commute. Low temperatures will dip to around 40°. Expect another gloomy start to Friday with low clouds along with patchy areas of fog, mist, & drizzle for the morning commute. During the afternoon hours, we should experience some gradual clearing. Highs will top out in the upper 50s. Heading into the weekend, the weather pattern will shift significantly as a strong storm system moves into the country's midsection. Saturday will likely be another morning where our weather starts off gloomy. Expect low clouds along with patchy fog, mist, and drizzle. As a warm front lifts northward, winds will veer out of the south-southeast bringing in warmer and more humid air. There may be some breaks in the clouds late Saturday, but the day is expected to stay mostly cloudy. We'll warm-up from the 40s Saturday morning into the middle to upper 60s Saturday afternoon. Locations along and near the Bay will stay cooler with the onshore winds. By Sunday, the storm system will approach the Mid-Atlantic, causing winds to further increase across the area. Gusts could exceed 40 mph Sunday afternoon, with isolated gusts up to 50 mph possible due to a strong low-level jet stream. We've upgraded Sunday to a WJZ First Alert Weather Day for an increasing chance of late afternoon and evening severe storms. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop ahead of a cold front approaching during the afternoon and evening hours. The Storm Prediction Center has placed the area under a slight risk for severe thunderstorms, highlighting the potential for damaging winds and isolated tornadoes if conditions materialize. In addition to the damaging wind and isolated tornado potential, heavy downpours are likely. Many areas will experience a quick 0.50" to 1" of rain with the storms. This could cause some temporary flooding in poor drainage areas, but overall the rain will be beneficial with our ongoing drought situation. Sunday's high temperatures will reach the low to mid-70s, cooling down into the upper 40s to near 50 degrees by Sunday night. Rain chances linger into early Monday morning, followed by drying conditions and partly cloudy skies by Monday afternoon. Highs Monday will reach the mid to upper 50s. Gusty northwest winds between 20 and 25 mph will persist through the afternoon. Temperatures will drop into the 30s Monday night but rebound to the mid-60s by Tuesday afternoon. Spring-like temperatures return by midweek, with highs approaching 70 degrees Wednesday afternoon.
